About Michelle P. Brown

Michelle P. Brown, FSA, was formerly the Curator of Medieval and Illuminated Manuscripts at the British Library and subsequently Professor of Medieval Manuscript Studies at the School of Advanced Study, University of London (where she is now an Emeritus Professor). She has authored or edited 32 books and 80 articles / chapters, has broadcasted and lectured widely to a range of audiences and has curated exhibitions internationally. She now works as a freelance academic and lecturer, based in Sennen in the far West of Cornwall, where she delivers talks, mostly in aid of charities, and courses on Cornwall, its history and culture. She manages the CTIPA Penzance area food bank and is a parish councillor. She still undertakes work for universities, societies and groups throughout the UK and delivers courses and lectures internationally. She is a Lay Canon of Truro Cathedral (and was formerly a Lay Canon and Chapter Member of St Paul’s Cathedral, London) and is a Lay Worship Leader for Land’s End Benefice. She is a Visiting Professor at University College London, Chair of the Friends of St Michael’s Way, a Board Member of the Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network (CASPN), a member of the Society of Antiquaries and of the Royal Institution of Cornwall. She is a Patron of the Society of Bookbinders, an Honorary Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators and of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and a Trustee of the Hereford Mappa Mundi.
